Gabon has abundant natural resources which has made it one of the most prosperous and stable countries in the central African region. Gabons forests shelter species such as gorillas, chimpanzees, elephants and mandrills.
The country remains a haven for wildlife due to a history of relative isolation. Up to 60,000 forest elephants inhabit Gabons vast forests, this maybe the largest population of forest elephants in central Africa.
